It’s been a busy couple of months in at Ascend, with winter sports well underway the contact injuries seem to be coming out, as well as some spinal injuries which occasionally arise with the colder change of weather. As a bit of first aid for your spine, if something is feeling a bit tight or sore it will usually respond well to heat, be it a shower, wheat bag, hot water bottle etc. If you need supplies Ascend carries a variety of well made, well sized microwaveable wheat bags, as well as ice packs that can also be heated. We also stock Hotteeze, which are brilliant stick-on hot packs which will stay toasty warm for a good 10 hours once on - they’re great to sleep on overnight or to get you through the day at work.

For those of you on the sports field, chances are you’ll get a knock or two at some point - remember the RICE principle. Rest (avoid aggravating activities, not lie in bed!), Ice (20mins every 2 hours for at least 3 days), Compress (elastic bandage or strapping tape) and elevate (speaks for itself really!).

Frequent flyer of the month goes to our physio Ben Mather, who recently traveled to Los Angeles to work with singer Pink, motocross rider Carey Hart and a few others. Ben spent a week there treating, running rehab programs and driving up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. He will be heading overseas again in June for the Dublin leg of Pink’s upcoming Summer Carnival tour in Europe. Lucky man!
